  • Notes
    • Not found in censuses. Drowned in the Canal; funeral in Burnley attended by brother Isaac who returned to Ince and drowned in a canal lock the same night.
Identical press reports appeared in the Burnley Express and the Burnley Advertiser on August 9th headed 'A Wigan boatman drowned at Burnley'. They read: 'William Bamber of Rose Bridge, Ince, 50(sic) years of age, was found drowned in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Gannow at 8.30 on Saturday morning.
'From the evidence adduced at the inquest, held at the Gray Mare Inn, Gannow, on Tuesday before Mr Gilbertson, the Preston Coroner, it appeared that the deceased was last seen alive shortly after Friday midnight lying on the floor of the cabin of the boat, and nothing more was heard or seen of him until his body was found in the canal at the above stated time.
'A verdict of "found drowned" was recorded.'
