    • Appears as Thomas Snape in 1841 census after mother's marriage to James Snape.
      News report in the Ormskirk Advertiser, dated July 4 1901, repeated in issue 70 of the ODFHS magazine The Ormskirk and District Family Historian, headed "Sudden death at Halsall" reads: "Thomas Spencer, 63 years of age, boatman of Cheapside, Halsall, died suddenly on Sunday morning last. Deceased had not enjoyed good health duriong the past four years, having been troubled with his heart and bronchitis, for which he had been medically attended from time to time. He rose at about 7.30 a.m. on Sunday and asked his daughter Annie, who kept house for him, to make him a cup of tea, which she did. He sat down on a chair, drank the tea and was making an effort to put the cup on the table when he fell back on the chair and died in the presence of his daughter. An inquest is unnecessary."
