    • Birthplace given as Leeds in 1871 census, Carslow(?) Derbyshire in 1881, Chesterfield in 1891.
      There is an entry in the Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records (Ancestry) for 1861, headed John Heath, 38, of 42 Church Street, Hertford (1 month) Butcher, in which he states: "About the year 1847 I rented and occupied a house and shop in Ardwick in the Borough of Manchester, paying ?25 a month rental and rates and taxes. I lived there till the year 1854. I have never done any act since."
      There is then another heading, "Manchester" and a note saying Landlady Mrs Symms.
      The text continues "was married at the Cathedral Manchester 9 Febry 1851 to Sarah Jane. John Edwd 8 years, Hugh 3 years, Fredk Wm aged about one month."
      It concludes "Ardwick in the parish of Newton, Chorlton Union in the City and Township of Manchester" witha note adding "out 9/8/61".
      (Marriage record gives date as Jan 9, not Feb.)
