  • Notes
    • Thomas is known from his marriage certificate to be son of Thomas Yates, boatman, who is absent in the 1841 census when Thomas, 6, and his assumed sister Elizabeth, 3, are in Rip Row, Whittle le Woods, with their (assumed) grandmother Margaret Yates, 60, and two uncles, Hugh, 30, boatman, and James, 30, labourer.
In 1851 Thomas and an Ellen (possibly an error for Elizabeth) are listed as son and daughter of James Yates, unmarried, boatman, their (assumed) uncle. Also present is Margaret Taylor, 43, an unmarried housekeeper, b Whittle.
