BC signed by Elizabeth Lewis (her mark) mother, with father named as William Caunce, indicating that he was present but that they were not married. This tallies with birth registration on Lancs BMD of William Wilkinson Caunce, mother's maiden name Lewis. Appears in 1851 census as William Caunce, "nephew" of William Caunce, unmarried, 36, boatman b Rufford, but this must surely be his father. Marries as William Wilkinson Caunce Lewis, and named as such in son Richard's 1880 baptism record, but appears as Caunce in 1871 census. William W Lewis in 1881 and Lewis thereafter.
William married Mary Tyrer on 1 Oct 1870 in St John the Baptist, Burscough. Mary (daughter of Richard Tyrer and Mary Molyneux) was born in 1844 in Lathom. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
