    Notes:

No birth record in GRO Online Index or Lancashire BMDs. Birthplace Bursbough in 1851 and 1861 censuses.
Not found in later censuses, so there is no confirmation that this is the Edward who married Mary Carr, but the circumstantial evidence is strong. His brothers Thomas and Henry, and sister Alice had children in Leigh and Runcorn, with Christian names Charles, Robert and Alice being common.

Edward married Mary Carr on 13 Nov 1861 in Tyldesley Top Chapel, Leigh. Mary (daughter of Robert Carr) was born in 1840. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

An anomaly in the 1861 census for Plank Lane, Abram, has James's name struck through and replaced with wife Ann, 55, with son John, 12. But James, 57, on the canal in Wigan with Robert, 15, and Alice, 13, is listed as a widower. (Ann is a widow in the 1871 census).
