    Assumed brother of John b1770, because of proximity of families in censuses, common names among children and grandchildren - including Charlotte, Hannah, Samuel and Thirza - and the appearance of Richard's grandchildren Martha and James (parents William b1800 and Susannah Betts) in Oldbury Road, Smethwick, in the 1861 census as 'grandchildren' of Hannah, 83, widow of John Gosling.
