Widowed in 1871 census on a cabin boat at Harris Wharf, Toll End, Tipton, next to a Martha Fisher, widow, 28, and daughter Mary, 2, with William Beresford, 32, brother of Benjamin's first wife Caroline Beresford and her sister Martha. It is thought likely that this Martha Fisher is the widowed Martha Digoray, nee Beresford, who becomes Benjamin's partner thereafter.

No death found for him, or second marriage for Martha, who is clearly Benjamin's partner after 1871 as children's birth records confirm mother's maiden name as Ber(r)esford. Quite likely to be the 'Martha Fisher' at Harris Wharf, Toll End, next to Benjamin in the 1871 census.
