Robert's great-granddaughter, Jan Lintott, records that he transferred from HM Dockyard, Portsmouth, to Bermuda Dockyard in 1870, followed by his family in 1871-72. But his daughter Alice died there in 1872, as did his wife in 1873, and the other children were sent back to Portsmouth. He stayed, but died three years later.
