    • Baptised as Joseph Saxton and appears as such in 1841-61 censuses and in first marriage record. Changed surname to Townsend before second (bigamous) marriage, naming mother's husband as father ("declined to answer" in earler record). Signed own name - Saxton first, Townsend second - both times and appearance of "Joseph" almost identical.
      Sarah Ann Saxton, nee Pickersgill, appears in the 1671 and later censuses as a widow.
