  • Notes
    • Mary died of suffocation during the night on the canal boat's cabin floor by her drunken mother, against whom a manslaughter verdict was returned (Bolton Evening News, 12.12.1870).
The Manchester Evening News reported (8.3.1871) the ensuing hearing at Manchester Assizes, saying: "The Grand Jury found there was no bill against Eleanor Gill, 39, charged with having on 9th December 1870 at Aspull feloniously killed and slain one Mary Gill."
