Inquest held 2.9.1897 - verdict: Accidental Death.
A press report (unsourced) on Ancestry states: 'Harry Drinkwater, 13, of Middlewich, drowned in the Shropshire Union Canal. Alfred Driinkwater, captain of the boat Alaska, said the deceased was his son, and after they arrived at Wheelock Wharf the boy got out and went forward to get the lock ready. As he did not return, witness shouted but got no response. He could not find the boy and concluded that he must have fallen into the water. A search was made and the body was recovered.'
